Island View Café, Hannafore.

A fine old-fashioned seaside experience: a range of gentle delights along the promenade of Hannafore beach, with the glorious Looe island always in view. Very close to Looe but so different, reassuringly staid seaside houses with palms and pine trees in the front gardens gaze contentedly at the bay.

The Café is right next to the tennis courts, so as you sip your coffee and eat your cake, the thwack of tennis balls intensifies the atmosphere of a genteel English afternoon. A little further along is the lawn bowls club where white suited gents and ladies battle it out on a pristine green.

There is a kiosk for ice creams and a beach with reasonably large sandy bits. Walk to where the road abruptly ends and the coast path begins, and you can see the remains of a medieval monk’s house that was dug up by Time Team a few years ago.
