Quayside Fresh Farm Shop. Looe
Shopping like it used to be…
Quayside Fresh is a right old-fashioned fruit and veg shop, with a wooden floor-rough-hewn vibe. Plenty of fresh local Cornish produce (“in some cases picked that morning”), nicely displayed and served by friendly staff. It’s a miracle that they manage to cram it all in such a compact little shop, but the crowded shelves give a nice feel of profusion and abundance.
There’s locally baked bread — the sourdough is particularly good — meat that has been raised close by, and plenty of quality-brand groceries of the kind you might find in Waitrose or a bijou deli.
It’s all done with care and attention and makes a nostalgic reminder of how pleasant ordinary shopping can be. There is also a tiny post office.
