An Evocative Reminder of Childhood Past…

A nostalgic delight down on the Old Town Quay. Established in 1952 and hardly changed since, the Fowey Aquarium is an unlikely survival from a simpler age, and an evocative reminder of childhood holidays. This effect is enhanced by the vintage–looking crab lines and fishing paraphernalia on sale, and the hand painted fishy artworks on the exterior.

There is a charming homemade, amateurish (in the very best sense) vibe, and the helpful proprietor has a fund of stories and anecdotes about the aquarium and its’ inhabitants.

The sea water is pumped in from the harbour, and the fish are provided by local fisherman, so the attraction is bang on up-to-date: small, local, sustainable. Great for kids af all ages.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Take the Bodinnick Ferry to Fowey, park where the ferry docks at Caffa Mill. 10 minutes walk to Fowey — keep going to the end of the main street, and when you get to The Ship pub, turn left, and walk down to the Town Quay.
