Lostwithiel is a bustling little town and a delight in itself, with a number of high-quality independent shops, of which more later.
But if you love old stuff, and rooting around searching for treasure, then this is a top day out. The town has more antique shops to the yard than most, each with its own individual character.
At the top on the main road you will find Stephen Foy Antiques (traditional, fairly upmarket). Towards the bottom of Fore St are: Uzella Court Antiques (a profusion of small things in individual stalls, great for holiday shopping); Déjà Vu Antiques (Unusual/eclectic); Anna Diane Furnishings (some objets, but mainly reconditioned furnishings). Turn right at the bottom by the Co-Op and you will come to Atticus & Willow (beautifully curated — often with continental antiques).
At the bottom of the town is a delightful picnic area where the River Fowey flows under a medieval bridge.

HOW TO GET THERE: Approach the town on the A390 from Lanreath, turn right into Fore St. Look out for a parking place as you drive down through the town If you haven’t found one by the time you reach the Co-Op at the bottom, turn right, and there is a car park a small distance on the left.
