The Duchy Coffee Shop

Posh. Pricey. A holiday treat…

Sometimes you just have to park your principles, and indulge in the pleasure of something that is (a) a bit posh and (b) expensive.

Then the fun begins.

Here is a garden centre (actually not that expensive, the trees between the Tabernacle and Observatory came from here). Yes, there are plants, and also all sorts of irresistible garden stuff which you can take home more easily.

There is a restaurant/coffee shop which is a delight. High-quality food (sometimes it comes on a roof slate — I wish they wouldn’t do that, it’s so last decade), lovely coffee and cakes, all in a la-di-da, cosy ambiance with an open fire and sofas. It’s all very conservative and a bit dated but very pleasant nonetheless.

Then there is the shop. Full of high-quality well designed stuff, absurdly expensive. You just have to treat yourself sometimes, especially when you’re on holiday…
