What the locals know…
A delightfully authentic Cornish pub, tucked away at the bottom of Bodinnick village, just by the slipway of the ferry to Fowey. The building has been an inn for over 400 years, originally a staging post on the old London to Penzance road. It overlooks Ferryside, the family home of Daphne Du Maurier, and the ferry to Fowey. What a location!
The cosy, unspoiled bar is full of wacky artefacts and some fine genuine historical photographs, with an original slate floor and ancient woodburning stove.
It’s a favourite with the locals, who know a thing or two, but not even all the locals know the pub has a secret place… Get your drink in the bar, then come back out to the lobby, go up the internal staircase a few flights, and this will bring you up onto a fabulous balcony with one of the best views in Fowey – all the way down the river across the harbour, and out to sea. You can sit here with your artisan beer and fancy crisps watching the boats as the sun goes over the hills across the river— it’s glorious.
The pub also has a fine restaurant, but in season you will certainly need to book.

HOW TO GET THERE:
From Lanreath, follow the sign for Fowey and Bodinnick. Just after Whitecross, look out for a sign to the left saying “Bodinnick, Village Only“. Follow the lane down through the village, and when you see the river at the bottom of the hill start looking for a parking place. It’s a small village so don’t worry if you don’t find one — turn sharp right at the bottom by the ferry (watch out if the ferry is boarding), follow the road up the hill about 300 yards and you’ll come to a small, free car park on the right hand side. A pleasant walk back along the river gets you to the Old Ferry Inn.
